Removal of intermediaries or middlemen in a transaction or process. In the context of blockchain, disintermediation means that transactions can be conducted directly between parties without the need for a central authority or intermediary, such as a bank. It should be noted, however, that even though a transaction on a blockchain does not require a central authority, it will in general still need other blockchain participants (such as miners, validators or others, depending on the particular blockchain implementation) to be carried out.
